“In order to be irreplaceacle, one must always be different.”
— Coco Chanel
How many of you can say you regularly shop at the mall? I’m sure many. Is it because it’s convenient? Close? Everything’s in one place? It’s a good place to meet your friends? Your favorite store is there? While these things may be true, you’re not the only person who thinks this way. Which means your favorite store is already someone else’s favorite store too. You’re going to be going to the same sale your neighbors are going to. And you’re probably buying that same little black dress that your coworker is. The way I’ve solved this dilemma is shopping at unique and fabulous boutiques!
Why shop at boutiques? 1. They are still close and scattered throughout your city, 2. They sell some of the same designers the mall does plus more you’ve probably never heard of, 3. You are still getting a great deal because they are in control of the prices, 4. And you’re going to find a way hotter LBD than that coworker of yours!
Coco Chanel tells us to be different. Not the kind of different where someone thinks you’ve just escaped an insane asylum, but the kind of different that will get that man, or woman’s, attention to ask you on a date. The kind of different that has someone running up to you to ask “Where did you get those shoes?!” for the hundredth time that day. Boutiques offer that kind of different.

The real beauty of you comes from within. I will not deny that this is the absolute truth. Unfortunately, the first time you see someone, you can’t see what is within. This may sound shallow, but if you think about it, you will see that it is true. Even the most accepting person in the world, unless he or she is blind, draws his/her first thoughts about you from your outer appearance. Although they may try to dismiss the thought in order to not show prejudice, they thought it nonetheless.
True, a great personality and inner beauty may help another to look pass a fashion mishap, but why would you want to depend on it. I speak the truth when I say that most people take a while to dismiss their first impression of you. Therefore, your first impression may also be your last. Take the time to look your best. This doesn’t mean you have to look like a runway model, but dress appropriately for whatever engagement you are attending. When in doubt of what’s appropriate, asking about the dress code is never a bad idea. Make a good and lasting impression and it won’t likely be your last impression.

It’s Friday and you are heading home to get ready for a night out with the girls. Today you were dressed in a tailored grey business suit which was perfectly complemented by a classic pair of 2 inch heels. The outfit was perfect and you were dressed to impress. You return home, shower and can’t wait to put on that little black cocktail dress. There is just one problem, “what shoes should you wear?” After little thought, you decide to pull out the same black heels you wore with your business suit. After all, black goes with everything right? Wrong! While black shoes may look acceptable with many outfits, it’s not always the most flattering way to go. The shoes you should have chosen were the red, 5-inch, open toe pumps with the leopard accent. Not only would they have given your calves and derrière a sexier appearance, they also would have added the perfect spice to the ensemble. Don’t be afraid to mix it up. Be bold and courageous! But most importantly, remember that black doesn’t go with everything.
